About Us

The Geographical Association was founded in 1893 when five geographers got together to share ideas on how to promote the subject. It now has around 7000 members in a network of branches across the country.

The Lincoln Branch, established in 1946, is one of the most active. We have over a hundred members drawn from all age groups and a wide range of backgrounds. What we all have in common is a lively interest in the world around us.

Our autumn and winter programme consists of monthly talks by academics or other professional experts. Each talk is illustrated and designed to appeal to the general public as well as to specialists. The whole range of geographical topics is usually covered. We meet in the Hardy Building at Bishop Grosseteste University College, Lincoln LN1 3DY.

The summer meetings take the form of evening and day visits as well as longer stays to places of interest in Britain and abroad. In recent years we have been to Poland, Madeira, India and Slovenia and, closer to home, to the Lake District, Manchester, Cambridge, the Yorkshire Dales, London and Shropshire.

Membership is open to anybody interested in geography and visitors are welcome. The annual subscriptions are deliberately kept as low as possible. For the coming year they are:

 Full members  £5.00
 Students/Unwaged  £2.00
 Visitors   £1.50 each meeting
