In 2002 a couple with young children decided that they didn't like living in the middle of Manchester any more and thought they needed time away from the city. They wanted to live somewhere where they could get in touch with nature and its natural cycles.
They moved to Harpsbridge House and decided to manage the land it has, its buildings, and their lifestyles using permaculture ethics and principles.
Harpsbridge House is now the first (July 2009) in a network of permaculture demonstration projects(The LAND project) being assembled by the British Permaculture Association. It is a recognised centre where people can come and see permaculture in practice and learn about how permaculture ethics and principles can be applied in a practical sense.
