227 Squadron

  • 227 Squadron was formed on 1st April 1918, based mainly in the Middle East.
  • It was disbanded on 9th December 1918.
  • It re-formed in 1942, but was changed to 19 Squadron (South African Air Force).
  • 227 Squadron was re-formed at Bardney on 7th October 1944, as 'A' flight, using personnel and Lancasters from 9 Squadron. They only spent two weeks bombing German targets until being re-located to Balderton on 21st October 1944.
  • It was finally disbanded on 5th September 1945.
