Bardney Lock

  • 1812 Work started on the construction of Bardney Lock.
  • According to the Census the Lock-keepers included:
  • 1841 - 1851 William Hall (b. 1798) and his wife (Amelia b. 1797). William came from Lincoln.
  • 1861 Henry H Hall (son of William) and his wife (Susan), with 5 Children: Martha A (b. 1841), Sarah A (b. 1851), Elizabeth (b. 1855), Henry W (b. 1857) and Eliza (b. 1859)
  • 1865 The Lock was re-furbished.
  • 1871 - 1881 Abel Redrupp (b. 1827) and his wife, Anne (b. 1816), with 4 Children: Isabella (b. 1852), Mary Elizabeth (b. 1853), James (b. 1854) and Anney (b. 1858). Abel was born in Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire.
  • 1891 – 1901 Isaac Cram (b. 1847) and his wife, Lucy (b. 1847), with 4 Children: Lucy (b.1874), Sarah A (b.1876), William (b. 1878) and Charles (b. 1880).
  • 1936 Mrs Wright became Lock-keeper until 1970. They came from Langworth. She had eight children, Bill, Charlie, Margaret, Evelyn, Hilda, Sheila, Mary and David.
  • David Wright managed the Lock until 1977, after which it became unmanned.
