The Original parish church in Boultham was St.Helen's (see photo page). However, growth in population meant that St.Helen's was too small for the greatly increased number of parishioners; further, its situation (on Hall Drive) was away from the development of housing. As early as 1921 a site was acquired on Skellingthorpe Road. The need for a new church was clear and on Sept.16, 1939, the foundation stone for Holy Cross parish church was laid. The building was consecrated by the Bishop of Lincoln on Dec.21, 1940. Since in tradition St.Helen discovered the true Cross on which Christ died the new Parish Church was dedicated in the name of the Holy Cross. It is an excellent Church, light and airy, modern and yet traditional in style. Come and see us.Perhaps light a votive candle and say a prayer. We are open 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon, Monday & Thursday, and of course on Sundays.
