Lincoln Unitarian Chapel

Lincoln unitarian chapel

Although referred to as Services when we gather together it is really a Meeting. A meeting of friends searching for the way to live in the Unitarian Way of tolerance, reason and freedom.Lincoln Unitarians accept no creed or dogma. People of any faith or none are all welcome.

Celebrations of Birth

Our services are centred around the importance of the commitment given by the community and the parents to offer the child love and support.

Funerals

Unitarian funerals are a reflection of peoples lives without unnecessary speculation about eternity or any unknown future. They are designed to meet a wide spiritual need and are personal in context.

Where shall we get married?

When you have decided to get married you may have to ask yourself
"We’d like the service to be in a local chapel…
but……"
"I’ve been married before"
"We are from different faiths"
"I’m not sure what I believe in……"
or many of the other ifs and buts that come to mind !

Perhaps the UNITARIANS can help you…….

Today, more and more couples wish to make both a civil and 'spiritual' commitment to each other on their wedding day.

This includes those who have been married before; who come from different faith traditions; who do not belong to a religious institution.

The Unitarian approach to marriage and religious beliefs will be able to help those who want more than a civil ceremony.

We believe that the commitment made for the future relationship is more important than the past.

We also believe that there are many sources of truth and that no-one has a right to impose their beliefs on another.
We respect other faith traditions and gain enrichment from their literature and wisdom.

We know that many people do not belong to any particular faith, but are following their own spiritual path.

We feel that it is important therefore, that there should be a place, an opportunity for couples to celebrate their friendship and union within their local community.

The Unitarian Chapel has been the home of freedom, tolerance and reason since 1725 It is also steeped in local history & beauty, that can only add to the value of the occasion.

A marriage ceremony is a very personal thing and should reflect and express what is significant and important to those concerned.Much can be gained by the involvement of the couple in planning the ceremony with the minister.

There is very little about a wedding service that is required by law. It is a wonderful opportunity for being creative and imaginative with both words and music.

So it can be a very individual occasion as well as including time honoured traditions.

Here in LINCOLN the Unitarians have one of the oldest chapels in the city. It seats at least 100 people.

Our minister would be very pleased to talk to you if you wish to consider a wedding service or if you just want more information.

Otherwise do come to any of our meetings which are held on every Sunday at 11.00am. We are also in the Meeting Room most Fridays around 11.00am You will be most welcome.
