*Please come and assist keeping the spinney looking great..*
**********************************************************************

*** Sometimes if you're in the Spinney on a Saturday morning you may meet a merry band of volunteers pushing wheelbarrows or (at this time of the year) even wielding spades and chainsaws!

*** If you'd like to join us, even just for one or two sessions, we'll always welcome any extra help, as maintaining the Spinney and the Meadow is all done by a small handful of volunteers. Our planned work days for the next 6 months are as follows:

*** All starting at 10am for approx. 2 ½ hrs with a tea break and natter half way though the session. For more info please call Patrick on 07876 806646.

• Sat 3rd and 17th February
• Sat 3rd, 17th and 31st March
• Sat 14th and 28th April
• Sat 5th and 19th May
• Sat 2nd, 16th and 30th June
• Sat 14th and 28th July

Many thanks, the spinney team.

2017 Tree Dressing Day - Saturday 25th November 11am - 3pm

Tree dressing

After the great success of last year's event, we're doing it again!

Most of you will have decorated (or helped to decorate) your own Christmas tree, but have you ever wondered what it's like to decorate a whole wood?

Once again it's completely free – all you need to do is turn up, make some decorations and then hang them from the tree of your choice. We will provide all the materials, lights, fruit etc – all you have to do is be as creative as you can.

We will also be providing refreshments, and if it turns a bit chilly, we'll have a camp-fire to warm you up, and you can toast marshmallows or whatever your fancy may be!

To all Spinney Visitors and Users

During the past few weeks, we have had a couple of nasty acts of vandalism to items of play equipment and for your own health and safety we need to let you know what has happened and what we are doing about it.

Some unknown person(s) cut the chain off the seat on the zip-wire, which we have now replaced with a new seat and this is now fully usable.

This past week-end we found that someone else – or perhaps the same person(s) have cut cable on the space net. We are now asking visitors not to use the space net until we have made the necessary repairs. The space net is now cordoned off with clear signs not to use, but we hope to have it back in operation  as soon as possible.

We have contacted the Police to let them know of the vandalism, but if anyone has any idea of who may have done these horrible actions, please let us know.

Regards

The Spinney Team

TESCO – ‘BAGS OF HELP’ FUNDING FOR THE SPINNEY

The Spinney, a wild, wonderful woodland in Little Bytham has been shortlisted for a fantastic funding award from the Tesco ‘Bags of Help’ initiative, and we need your votes to help us get the money to make it an even better place to visit.

Since it opened in 2003 as a special place for children and adults to come and play, have fun, run wild in the woods, build dens, make campfires, walk the dogs or just chill out, the Spinney has been visited by thousands of people from all over South Kesteven (and further afield) who just love getting back to nature.

We have been very lucky to be chosen by TESCO to receive new funding and from February 27th until March 6th, every shopper who goes to the following TESCO stores can vote for The Spinney and, with your support, if we can get the most votes, we will get the most funding, which will be £12,000.

Bourne - Bourne Express - Grantham Express

Grantham Harrowby - Market Deeping - Stamford Metro

So, between these dates, when you need to go shopping, go to TESCO, buy what you want, get a token and put it in THE SPINNEY container.

Also, feel free to tweet or Facebook what you have done to support THE SPINNEY and get all your friends and followers to do the same.

Now more than ever THE SPINNEY needs YOU! Thank you for your support!

To all friends and users of The Spinney…some very good but also some disappointing news this week….

The good…The Spinney has been selected nationally as one of the first  Charter Champions of the Woodland Trust’s new Charter for Trees, Woods and People. This is a national campaign to promote the importance of woodland and forest areas and everyone is asked to get involved by telling your stories about how you have enjoyed being around trees in whatever way you like. And if your favourite woodland area is the Spinney, then so much the better.

If you follow this link: http://www.theguardian.com/tree-charter/2016/jan/22/meet-the-charter-champions you will able to see an article on the Spinney and you can tell your own stories about trees on http:/treecharter.uk

The disappointing…. when we went to the Spinney for our Saturday work session today, we found that someone had broken into our storage container and had stolen all our mowers, strimmers, blowers and a big chipper. This is really annoying as we need to use all this equipment to keep the Spinney in a good condition. If anyone knows anything or saw any unusual activity within the past 24 hours please let us know. We have informed the Police and all the items were specially security marked.

 The Spinney team.

Whether you have helped before or not, do please come and join us for a few hours' light work around The Spinney, The Meadow, The Sensory Garden and the Heritage Orchard.

Free refreshments will be provided by FOBS (Friends of the Bythams School).

A great place to play and have fun (for all ages), The Spinney is maintained totally by volunteers. It is free to use (though donations are, of course, always welcome and most gratefully received), and it is always open – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
