The Tennyson Society (and affiliate) Conferences and Events

The Tennyson Society has organised, and supported, a rich and diverse range of related conferences and events, which brings together scholars and poetry lovers from various backgrounds to discuss and celebrate the beloved poet.  Here, you can find information about the society's latest events.


Saturday 9th June

Annual general Meeting at 2 pm at Bishop Grosseteste University, Lincoln, followed at 3 pm by the Annual Lecture. The lecture on ‘The Princess’ and the Generosity of Tennyson’s Imagination will be given by Prof. Linda K. Hughes of Texas Christian University.

Sunday 5th August

Annual Memorial Service at Somersby Church at 3 pm. Prof. Mark Seaward will give the address on ‘Landscape interpretation by poets 1750-1850’.

Saturday 6th October

Annual Wreathlaying Ceremony at 12 noon in Poets’ Corner, Westminster Abbey, by kind permission of the Dean, followed by lunch at a nearby restaurant.

Unfortunately there will not be a weekend event this year as nobody has been prepared to organise one!
