The Tennyson Society (and affiliate) Conferences and Events

The Tennyson Society has organised, and supported, a rich and diverse range of related conferences and events, which brings together scholars and poetry lovers from various backgrounds to discuss and celebrate the beloved poet.  Here, you can find information about the society's latest events.


Friday 29th - Sunday 31st March: Tennyson Conference at Christ Church College, Oxford

Saturday 15th June

Annual General Meeting at 2pm at Bishop Grosseteste University, Lincoln followed at 3pm by the Annual Lecture which will be given by Dr Anna Barton of Sheffield University.

Saturday 13th July

Brackenbury Memorial Lecture at Raithby Chapel nr Spilsby at 3pm to be given by Prof Mark Seaward entitled ‘Environmental interpretation of the Lincolnshire landscape, 1750-1850 with particular reference to Alfred Tennyson, John Clare and Peter de Wint’

Sunday 4th August

Annual Memorial Service at Bag Enderby Church at 3pm. The address will be given by Mark Tennyson d’Eyncourt.

Saturday 5th October

Annual Wreathlaying Ceremony at 1 pm in Poets’ Corner, Westminster Abbey, by kind permission of the Dean, followed by lunch at a nearby restaurant. (Please note the change of time).

We are still looking for an organiser for the weekend in 2020 if anyone would like to volunteer.
