Alan and Maggie Wood from Baston in South Lincolnshire organise a variety of traditional music events within the village. There are concerts, music sessions, free instrumental lessons and workshops for beginners and improvers and monthly concerts of top quality traditional music. All the concerts feature top professional artists, are self financing and organised on a non profit making basis. Support is given to other village organisations and fund raising groups and we participate occasionally in the popular Lincolnshire Community and Rural Touring scheme.
Lincolnshire was one of the richest parts of England for the Victorian Edwardian folk song collectors and we have celebrated the work of Percy Grainger and local ‘peasant poet’ John Clare in our concerts and music sessions.
This website contains details of the concert programme, music sessions in The Spinning Wheel pub, melodeon lessons for beginners, dances with The Waggonload of Monkeys Ceilidh Band, and reviews of CD’s books and folk music events. However, this site can only advertise events associated with Baston. If you want to see details of other local events or have them advertised, please look at the Peterborough Folk Diary (www.peterboroughfolkdiary.org.uk) which also covers our area.
